Our story · Since 1863

The Vlăhița (Szentegyháza) Ironworks

The roots of the OXO ecosystem reach back to 1863 and the Vlăhița Ironworks — the easternmost metallurgical facility of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. From hand-forged tools to industrial machinery, the works grew decade after decade, training generations of craftsmen through apprenticeship programs.

Industrial scaling went hand in hand with the social and spiritual fabric of the place: a workers' housing colony, a school, a church and a cemetery turned the works into a living community, not merely a workplace.

In 1896 the works featured successfully at the Millennium Exhibition in Budapest, proving that cutting-edge technology and local resilience can build a lasting bridge together. The same philosophy — from tools to machinery, from people to communities — underpins the OXO platform today.
